Peer Digital Media Tutor - Fall 2023

Peer tutors work in the Student Learning Center (SLC) and meet with students to clarify and review concepts taught in class, explain processes, and help students solve specific problems. Tutoring supports classroom-centered activities, and as such, the emphasis and content of the tutoring session are determined by the student's needs and the assigned coursework. Tutors contribute to the day-to-day functioning of the SLC and also assist senior staff with special projects. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Tutor students one-on-one or in groups in the use of digital media software for those concentrating in areas such as toy design, animation, motion design, game, and entertainment design. 
  • Support students in successfully completing their academic coursework.
  • Maintain records of tutoring sessions to be communicated with SLC staff and Otis faculty.
  • Communicate with students via email/chat/ and/or phone call as directed by SLC staff.
  • Attend mandatory staff meetings and training.
  • Provide students with academic coaching as directed by SLC staff.
  • Assist with the ENGL 102 and ENGL 103 Writing Labs as needed.
  • Keep up to date with different student/academic offices on campus.
  • Communicate with faculty when necessary under supervision of SLC staff.
  • Tutor students in other areas, such as math or digital media if qualified to do so.
  • Contribute to the day-to-day functioning of the office, such as organizing and decorating.
  • Assist with special projects, such as the development of tutoring and training materials.
  • And other responsibilities as needed.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Full-time student (12 credit hours or more)
  • Maintains 2.5 cumulative GPA

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Positive attitude with the willingness to learn and adapt to new changes
  • Ability to relate well to others and communicate clearly
  • Organized, responsible, punctual, and reliable
  • Teachable and can work independently with some supervision
  • Respecting confidentiality during one-on-one tutoring sessions

Pay is based on year and starts at $16.04 per hour as of Spring 2023, and at $16.78 beginning Fall 2023.

Students with Federal Work-study are welcome to apply, though this is not a requirement.

Hours are flexible and we will provide training and guidance.
